A New Year Nightmare.

Nicholas had a shocking start,
He was left to die of a broken heart.
A driver hit him and didn't care,
He was filled with pain, shock and despair.

Lying on the ground, his leg hanging off
Gasping for breath and starting to cough.
Feeling the cold wind around his frame,
Snow was slowly numbing the pain.

There at the vet's, his leg he did lose
Because some evil man was on the booze.
His future looked grim as he lay on the table,
They fought hard to save him, then he became stable.

Over the worst, he was placed in a bed,
"Let's find him a home," the good vet said.
They rang all the rescues but no one could help,
Just then Nicholas started to yelp.

"What can we do, we must find him a home,"
The vet's receptionist started to phone.
One last call to a lady called Pat
Who rescues Greyhounds and dogs like that.

She said, "Give me a day to sort something out,"
Just then Nicholas started to shout.
"Forget it, I'm coming to pick him up now,"
With a house full to bursting, we'll find room somehow.

That New Year's Eve he had found so much love,
Now he would be happy and taken care of.
A little prayer went out that night,
Please let his future be happy and bright.
